The Best Glamping in Australia

If you’re like me, you love camping under the stars, out in the wilderness away from civilization. Camping is, in my opinion, the best way to switch off from the world and reconnect with yourself. I love hiking out to a mountain campsite with all my gear, pitching a tent, building a fire and just enjoying the view. But sometimes, camping can be more taxing than relaxing. Sometimes, you want to escape in nature without having to go through the effort of planning the hike, setting up your tent, carrying all your gear and building out the campsite just to pack it all up in a couple days and head back to the real world.

That’s where glamping comes in. Glamping is one of the best ways to have a disconnecting getaway without all the fuss, whilst also feeling like you’re pampering yourself. Glamping can also be an incredible romantic getaway for you to spend some quality time with each other, without the noise of the world. If you’re yet to experience glamping, you should definitely give it a try, it might just become your next favourite vacation idea! Whether you’ve dabbled in glamping or keen to try it out, I’ve put together a list of some of Australia’s best glamping experiences you should add to your next Aussie adventure. From island escapes to immersive mountain adventures, there’s bound to be something that’ll catch your eye.

Rottnest Island - Coastal Glamping

Glamping by the beach at Rottnest Island, Western Australia

If you’re after the ultimate island adventure with incredible beaches, clear water and colourful reefs, and adorable wildlife, then Rottnest Island is for you. Rottnest Island Discovery Parks’ eco-friendly glamping resort offers a unique island escape, blending modern comforts with the island’s natural beauty. You’ll have beach-front views with easy access to snorkelling, cycling, and endless coastal adventures while staying in luxurious safari tents. If you’ve never heard of Rottnest Island before, it’s an island just off the coast of Western Australia, about an hour's boat ride away from WA’s capital city, Perth. It’s famous for its stunning reefs and for the infamous quokka - an incredibly cute, cat sized marsupial that is indigenous to Rottnest Island. This little cutie loves to pose for selfies, often seen smiling for cameras - becoming a bit of a celebrity icon for Western Australia. If you’re visiting Rottnest, you’ll definitely run into these cute critters!

As far as glamping goes, Discovery Park’s Rottnest Island Glamping is up there as one of the best in Australia. It’s the ultimate island getaway for those seeking a relaxing time near the beach, whilst staying in a luxurious tent. It’s the perfect add to any Western Australia itinerary, so if you’re already planning on visiting Western Australia, then you should consider checking in!

Kings Canyon - Glamping under the Stars

Glamping at Kings Canyon, Australia

The Red Centre is Australia’s most ancient landscape, stretching for miles across a vast tundra. It’s the home of Australia’s iconic Uluru (formerly Ayers Rock), and it’s the perfect location for those wanting to escape to a remote location far, far away from civilization. Kings Canyon Discovery Park is an unforgettable base from which to explore the dramatic landscapes of the Northern Territory. Surrounded by towering sandstone cliffs and lush valleys, this unique accommodation offers everything from glamping-style tents to lodge-style rooms, all within a stone’s throw of the famous Kings Canyon Rim Walk. With Awe-inspiring views, Aboriginal cultural sites, and some of the country’s most iconic outback scenery, you can’t go wrong with spending a few nights at Kings Canyon Discovery Park.

If you’re wanting to immerse yourself in Australian Aboriginal culture, take a guided tour of Kings Canyon and its surrounds, with a guide who can impart the stories and history of the land that shaped the Aboriginal people. The best part is that you can opt for a glamping-style room, or kit it out in a lodge-style room - giving you ultimate flexibility. It’s a one-of-a kind experience that I highly recommend for those wanting to visit Australia’s Red Centre.

Cradle Mountain - Alpine Glamping at its Finest

A family hiking around Lake St Clair at Cradle Mountain National Park

One of my personal favourites that I couldn’t NOT put on this list is Cradle Mountain. Tasmania is one of Australia’s hidden gems, and is the ultimate Aussie getaway for those wanting to squeeze as much as possible into their trip. From beautiful wineries, awesome hikes, and jaw-dropping scenery, Tasmania has it all. The best part? It’s all so close together and you can easily see and experience so many unique experiences all within a couple hours drive apart.

Tasmania is also one of Australia’s last states that allows freedom camping, meaning as long as you’re out of a town or city boundary (and not on someone's private property!) you can pull up and camp wherever you wish. Of course, that also means Tasmania has some incredible glamping options as well, with my personal favourite being at Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. Discovery Park Cradle Mountain provides a getaway to the heart of ancient wilderness. Stay in cosy cabins that blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, giving you the chance to experience the raw beauty of alpine lakes, ancient rainforests, and stunning peaks. The park is a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. With countless hiking trails, wildlife encounters to be had, and opportunities for pure relaxation in nature, there’s so much to experience here. If you’re looking for the ultimate Tassie retreat, then Cradle Mountain Discovery Park is your answer!

Lake Argyle - Lakeside Remote Paradise

Lake Argyle in the Northern Territory

Now for somewhere I haven’t personally been, but I’ve heard raving reviews from our Australian Travel Specialists that this place is somewhere special! Lake Argyle is one of Australia’s largest freshwater lakes set in the vastness of the Kimberley in Australia’s Northern Territory. The Discovery Park here offers glamping and modern cabins with sweeping views of the lake’s dramatic landscape, making it the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploration. If you’re into boating, fishing , or simply soaking in the sun by the pool overlooking a lake, Lake Argyle offers a tranquil yet adventurous escape.

This place is perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in the rugged beauty of the Kimberley region. There’s also so many day trips to be had if you base yourself at Lake Argyle. From checking our Darwin city, to guided tours of Purnululu National Park, there’s a lot to see and do!

Camping in Style

Glamping has got to be my new favourite way of travelling. It’s all the freedom, exploration, and disconnect that I need in a camping trip, but far more comfortable and relaxing than regular camping. If I was booking a trip around Australia, I’d make sure I’ve got at least one glamping experience on my itinerary to take a break from the noise and recharge out in nature. Whether that’s by the beach in Rottnest Island or tucked away in the mountains at Cradle Mountain, there’s a glamping experience for everyone out there just waiting for you.

If you’ve read through this blog and would love to book one of these glamping experiences, or add them to your next tour, speak with our Aussie Travel Specialists today and see how we can help you plan and book your next Australian adventure.
