Bellingen
A small inland town on the Mid North Coast of NSW with a relaxed community vibe and stunning forest surrounds, Bellingen can't be missed. If you are driving through, it is definitely worth stopping for a pastry, coffee or a craft beer at one of the many local eateries.
If you have time to explore, drive over the bridge in town and discover the Promised Lands, through which the Never Never River flows with some of the most crystal clear waters you'll find in Australia - the perfect spot for a shady swim on a warm day. Just 30 minutes further up the highway you will find Dorrigo National Park, though it feels as though you are a world away. Here you can take a walk through the lush forest, or above the trees on the Skywalk - taking in the beautiful birdsong along the way. Just outside the town of Dorrigo you will find Dangar Falls, a popular spot where you can cool off with a swim in the waterfall's pool.
You will often find the local surf community at Urunga, 15 minutes drive back towards the coast. It is somewhat of a hidden gem of a surf beach and worth a visit just for the spectacular ocean views or to watch the surfers paddle out.
