The King George River is one of WA’s most magnificent treasures, famous for its enormous twin waterfalls that stand over 70m high and descend into the Timor Sea. From a cultural point of view, the river is highly significant to the Balanggarra people. To them the Falls are the male and female Wunkurr (Rainbow Serpents).
Along the coast to the King George River, you will travel past Koolama Bay where the merchant vessel ‘Koolama’ was bombed by the Japanese during World War II. Hear about the amazing story of survival and mutiny and the untimely and unfortunate end to the ‘Koolama’.
When you get to the entrance of the King George River, you can’t help but feel dwarfed by the towering red rocky cliffs rising high above us. From here, you’ll meander up river to the incredible Falls, and if conditions permit you’ll be able to take an invigorating waterfall shower as the boat edges to within metres of the rock face. After some time to soak up the spellbinding Falls, you’ll start heading back to the lodge. Enjoy some fishing on the way and keep an eye out for other marine life including crocodiles, dolphins, dugong and manta rays to name just a few.

After a short drive to the ranger station, you'll set off on a guided 4km walking tour to the incredible Mitchell Falls (good level of fitness and mobility required). Along the way, you'll discover rarely seen Gwion and Wanjina rock art galleries, accompanied by a local expert guide from Kandiwal Community. The walk also takes you past Mertens Falls before arriving at the top of the Mitchell Falls, one of the most awe-inspiring wonders of the Kimberley.
After a picnic lunch and enough time to admire the falls, you'll take to the skies for a spectacular helicopter flight (included) back to where the walk started. Viewing the falls and surrounding landscape from the air is an absolute highlight, and a great way to finish off the experience. Once you're on the ground at the ranger station, return to the camp for a well-earned rest and perhaps a swim in the palm fringed creek.

Immerse yourself in the picturesque landscape of the rugged, red Cockburn Ranges at Emma Gorge. The safari-style tented cabins allow you to experience the great outdoors in complete comfort with modern en-suites, electricity, ceiling fans and tea/coffee facilities. Experience nature on your doorstep including spectacular flora and fauna and the turquoise pool of Emma Gorge.This morning, you’ll venture deeper into the heart of this iconic Kimberley wilderness to explore Chamberlain Gorge, a stunning three-kilometre freshwater oasis surrounded by towering escarpments. Enjoy a relaxing 90-minute gorge cruise, where you can feed the cheeky Archerfish before returning to Emma Gorge Resort via the station township.
After lunch, set off on a guided walk to the spectacular Emma Gorge waterfall (2.5 hours return – a good level of fitness is required, but the reward is well worth it). Take a refreshing swim in the large rock pool at the base of the falls and marvel at the breathtaking beauty of the gorge, considered one of the Kimberley’s finest.
Upon your return to the resort, the rest of the afternoon is yours to relax and unwind before regrouping for dinner.

After the flight, enjoy a walk along Piccaninny Creek to the awe-inspiring Cathedral Gorge, a natural amphitheatre, and follow the Dome Trail for an up-close look at the park’s unique geological formations.
In the afternoon, you’ll venture to the northern area of the Bungle Bungles to explore the dramatic Echidna Chasm before returning to the lodge for the evening.

From here, you'll join the Great Northern Highway and head into Halls Creek. After lunch, you'll turn off the highway to Mt Pierre Station where you will veer onto a track that will lead us to Mimbi Caves.
Your local guide will take you through this natural wonder which is part of the 350 Million-year-old Devonian Reef system. This amazing cave system will take your breath away with its vivid colours and limestone rock formations. Listen to Dreamtime stories and learn about the most significant Devonian fossil sites in the world from the local Gooniyandi people. Enjoy freshly brewed tea and damper made the traditional way by your guides using native seeds.
Later, you will head to the town of Fitzroy Crossing, the site of where the unprecedented flood events occurred in 2023. You will overnight at the Fitzroy River Lodge.
