On the northern coast of Kangaroo Island, a brief drive west of Kingscote lies the four and a half kilometres of pristine white sand beaches of Emu Bay. This beach ranks as one of the most popular on Kangaroo Island due to its crystal-clear and calm waters, long shoreline, and it’s direct vehicle access. Despite Emu Bay’s popularity, it is rarely crowded. The Emu Bay shale geological formation is a signature landmark and a source of high-quality fossil specimens. Have a relaxing walk along the jetty, built in 1918, which also hosts fishing and fishing charters. For a chance to spot the local colony of little penguins returning to their nests from a day at sea, have a walk along the beach at sunset. For a uniquely indulgent experience, be sure to stop in at the Emu Bay Lavender Farm for a taste of their oversized lavender scones and handmade ice cream, among the numerous other lavender products that are made and packaged on-site.
