Tour overview

Enter the Red Centre exploring some of Australia’s most incredible natural wonders. Starting in the quintessential Outback town of Alice Springs, you’ll go on a celestial journey through the glittering night sky with an expert astronomer, then hit the road to Western MacDonnell Ranges National Park (Tjoritja) to learn about its sacred sites with a First Nations guide. Make your way to King Canyon, then witness the scale and colours of Uluru at sunset and sunrise.

Is this trip right for you?

  • Temperatures in the Red Centre can be extreme, so you'll need to be well prepared. Depending on the time of the year, daytime can be very hot (and the Australian sun is very strong year-round), so always use sun protection and drink plenty of water. In the evenings temperatures can really drop, so bring sufficient warm clothing too – especially in winter when temperatures can drop below zero.
  • This trip involves some early mornings and on some days you’ll spend several hours driving through very sparse areas of Australia. Extra space can be tight, and conditions may feel a little cramped. Think of it as a great way to get to know your fellow travellers.
  • Sunrise, sunset and weather conditions vary throughout the year, and the order of activities may change to ensure you have the best experience possible. On occasion, the First Nations experiences may not be available should your guides have other cultural commitments, in which case there will be alternative activities.
  • This trip forms part of some longer combination tours. You might be joining travellers who have already spent some time together.
  • Minimum age: 15 years old.

*This itinerary is valid for departures from 01 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. Please consult your Travel Specialist for details on itinerary variations outside these dates.*

Trip itinerary

G’day and welcome to Alice Springs – or ‘Mparntwe’ in the language of the Arrernte people, the Traditional Owners of the land on which Alice Springs is located. Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 6 pm at your hotel where you’ll meet your local leader and group. After a quick intro, drive to Earth Sanctuary where you’ll get to know each other over a delicious Outback barbeque while the sun sets over the Eastern MacDonnell Ranges. Then, watch the Southern Sky come alive with constellations and stories on a guided star gazing experience with an astronomer. You’ll also get the chance to look through Earth Sanctuary’s Deep Sky Telescopes to spot a range of celestial objects.

It’s very important that you attend the welcome meeting as we will be collecting insurance details and next of kin information at this time. If you are going to be late, please let your travel agent or hotel reception know. Ask reception or look for a note in the lobby for more information on where the meeting will take place.
