Trip itinerary

Broome to Windjana Gorge

Your tour starts at 6am when you are picked up from your accommodation in Broome. Your first stop will be Derby’s impressive Boab Prison Tree; it has a girth of 14.7 metres and was once used as a stopping place for police and groups of Aboriginal prisoners. The next stop will be Tunnel Creek. This is a spectacular 750-metre-long limestone cave system. It has numerous aboriginal cultural and art sites, and even the odd freshwater crocodile can be spotted there. The site was part of Australia’s longest running battle on Australian soil. Your guide will explain some of the history of the area, including about Jandamarra and the Bunuba resistance. Later, you will set up camp and head into Windjana Gorge for sunset and to spot some of the local wildlife - including the large numbers of freshwater crocodiles!

A vertical top-down aerial shot showing the rounded tops of orange and black striped sandstone domes casting long shadows across the desert floor.

Accommodation

Remote Wilderness Camping

Bush camping is all part of the adventure and the experience of the outback. For many centuries Australia’s ancestors survived in the bush living off nature. Gaze up at the stars from your swag and embrace the wonders of Mother Nature as you breathe in the open air. Some nights you will bush camp with no facilities, however there are alternatives to get around this - such as swimming in the crystal clear springs along the way!
